Prof Binoy Kumar Saren will take over as the new officiating Vice-Chancellor of Visva Bharati University, according to an official statement released on August 30.

The announcement, signed by Acting Registrar, stated that Prof Arabinda Mondal, the outgoing officiating VC, will hand over his responsibilities to Saren immediately.

Saren previously served as Principal of Palli Siksha Bhavana, the university's rural education department, and was a member of the Executive Council, the institution's top decision-making body.

A university official highlighted that Saren is the first tribal individual to hold the position of VC at Visva Bharati University.

Following the end of permanent VC Bidyut Chakraborty's term in early November 2023, Sanjoy Kumar Malik initially assumed the role of officiating VC, followed by Mondal. Saren is now set to take charge from Mondal.

Officials mentioned that the Centre would soon announce the name of the permanent VC.
