Supreme Court Issues Directives on Kolkata Medical College Incident

The Supreme Court issued several directives on Thursday while hearing a suo-motu case related to the rape and killing of a post-graduate medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, who led the bench, reviewed a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and an affidavit from the West Bengal government.

Among the directives, the court instructed the Union health ministry to collaborate with state heads and police chiefs to implement basic safety measures for doctors nationwide. The court also emphasized that state governments should take remedial actions within two weeks and that peaceful protests should not be disrupted.
