Robert Vadra, businessman and husband of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, expressed his deep concern on Friday over the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. Vadra highlighted the critical necessity for ensuring women's safety and pledged to exert pressure to secure justice for the victim's family.

In a conversation with ANI in Hyderabad, Telangana, Vadra said, 'I am deeply troubled by the situation in our country where women face numerous challenges. Ensuring women's safety is paramount. It's shameful that administrations and associations are failing to deliver justice and are instead covering up cases.' He urged all to transcend party lines and prioritize women's safety in the country.

Vadra reiterated his concern particularly for the incidents in West Bengal, stating, 'I'm very upset and troubled by the events there. We must move beyond party politics and focus on the safety of women. Justice for the family is essential, and I will do my utmost to highlight these issues and ensure pressure is applied for justice.' The trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is handling the case, has conducted a second round of polygraph tests on Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI has also tested Sanjay Roy, the arrested accused, in connection with the crime. The CBI intervention followed directives from the Calcutta High Court.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court ordered the security of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to be managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in response to the incident. Additionally, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended Sandip Ghosh's membership.
