The deadline for the livestock census in West Bengal has been extended, according to an official from the state's Animal Resources Development department. Originally slated for December 31, the new timeline allows for more comprehensive data collection efforts across the region.

The census aims to include data from households across cities, urban areas, and villages, as well as districts inhabited by defense personnel. A mobile app will facilitate the upload of this data to a central government portal.

The deadline extension comes in response to challenges in data collection, particularly due to reluctance among pet and livestock owners. Local municipalities and panchayats are being enlisted to enhance outreach efforts and assure animal owners of the census's non-intrusive intentions.
