Police in Maharashtra's Palghar district have arrested a man involved in a Rs 9.5 crore fraud case targeting flat buyers, an official disclosed on Thursday.

The suspect, among five associated with two developer firms, allegedly took money from 43 customers between 2012 and 2020 but failed to construct any flats. After a case was filed in 2020, the suspects went underground. One of them, identified as Brijesh Vidyaprasad Mourya, has been recently apprehended.

Authorities noted that Mourya faces five additional cheating cases registered by Nalla Sopara police since 2016. He has been remanded in police custody until August 23, according to the official.
