Assadullah Biswas, a notorious criminal from West Bengal, was apprehended by the Delhi Police, officials confirmed on Thursday. Biswas is wanted in connection with more than 50 heinous crimes ranging from murder and rioting to leading a counterfeit currency racket.
In 2016, Biswas led a mob to burn the Kaliachawk Police Station in West Bengal. The Enforcement Directorate had attached his assets in 2020. Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) M Harsha Vardhan noted Biswas's extensive criminal portfolio, including charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Following secret intelligence, a special police team tracked him down to a hotel in Delhi. Biswas, who has been evading arrest since August, was also found in possession of multiple mobile phones intended to mislead investigators. Further probes involving multiple agencies continue.
