The Delhi police have registered an FIR (No. 583/24) in connection with an extortion case and a shootout that occurred in Narela on Monday. Rajiv Singh, a 38-year-old worker from the local grain market, filed the complaint.
According to Singh, he received a threatening phone call on August 25, demanding Rs 4 lakhs. The caller claimed to be involved in a prior abduction case in February, during which Singh was extorted of Rs 3.4 lakhs. Singh initially kept the abduction secret due to fear for his family's safety but reported it after receiving continued threats.
Following the complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections '386, 387, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25/27 of the Arms Act'. A raid ensued, leading to the arrest of two suspects: Vinay, 30, and Vijay, 32. Vinay was injured during the encounter and has a prior criminal record. Another FIR was filed under additional sections of the IPC and Arms Act.
Delhi Police said under Operation Kavach-5, they raided 325 locations in 15 districts between August 31 and September 1, arresting 74 narco offenders. This operation is part of the police's 'Zero tolerance policy' against narco-criminals.
