Sanjeev Raina, a 1987-batch ITBP officer, has been appointed as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This marks only the second instance when a non-Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been elevated to this high-ranking position within the force.

An official directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced Raina's elevation from Inspector General (IG) to ADG, along with another officer, IG Jaspal Singh, for the panel year 2024. Currently stationed at ITBP's central sector in Bhopal, Raina will assume his new role in the Western Command headquartered in Chandigarh.

Raina has a notable career, having served in various challenging terrains such as Ladakh and the northeast. He is also credited with establishing the counter insurgency and jungle warfare (CIJW) school in Uttarakhand. Despite his impending retirement next month, his promotion holds symbolic significance for ITBP officers.
