Ladakh is set to host the second edition of the Climate Cup, touted as one of the world's lowest carbon footprint football tournaments. The competition is scheduled to take place on grounds situated at an altitude of 11,000 feet.

Tsering Angmo, General Secretary of the Ladakh Football Association, noted that the tournament has become a marquee event for the Union Territory. It involves the collaboration of the Ladakh autonomous Hill Development Council to amplify climate change awareness.

The Climate Cup features eco-friendly elements such as zero plastic usage and battery-operated buses for transportation. Local fruits are provided as refreshments to support the region's green ecosystem. In a bid to promote reforestation, the forest department will plant 10 trees for every goal scored. The trophy itself is crafted from wood and adorned with Ladakhi motifs. A one-day conference on sports, sustainability, and climate change, titled 'Climate 11,' is also scheduled to take place.
