Over 90,000 new voters have been added in Jammu and Kashmir after a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls, increasing the electorate to 88.03 lakh, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls, with July 1, 2024, as the qualifying date, was completed across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, women and first-time voters have shown significant growth. The addition of 93,000 voters attributes much to the rise in young and female voters.

The number of polling stations has also risen by 209, with focus on ensuring the accuracy, inclusivity, and purity of electoral rolls. The region currently has 44.89 lakh male voters, 43.13 lakh female voters, and 168 third-gender electors. Young voters in the 18-19 age group increased by 45,964, including 24,310 women. This surge demonstrates the commitment of young electors towards the political process.

The number of first-time young voters has grown due to the effective implementation of the SVEEP plan under the guidance of District Election Officers. The gender ratio of electors improved from 959 to 961, indicating significant strides in electoral inclusion. Additionally, the number of polling stations has increased from 11,629 to 11,838, ensuring accessibility for every voter. Jammu and Kashmir currently have 83,191 registered PwD voters and 2,428 centenarian voters.
