Key Transfers Approved by Election Commission Ahead of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections

The Election Commission of India has approved several key transfers and tenure extensions ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. These include extending Anantnag Deputy Commissioner's tenure and appointing Nalin Prabhat as Director General of Operations and Security for the region.

In a significant move ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission of India has approved a series of key transfers and tenure extensions, according to official sources.

The Commission has extended the tenure of Anantnag Deputy Commissioner Syeed Fakhruddin Hamid by two years, beyond his initial term ending on July 8, 2024. Additionally, Baramulla SSP Gurinderpal Singh, Handwara SP Dawood Ayoub, and Kupwara SSP Shobhit Saxena have been transferred.

In an administrative overhaul, Nalin Prabhat IPS has been appointed as Director General of Operations and Security, with his tenure continuing until September 30, 2024. Meanwhile, Ashish Mishra IPS has been relieved from his position as Senior Superintendent of Police and transferred to Delhi Police.

The Election Commission has also directed the UT administration to submit a panel of IPS officers for key roles by August 29, 2024, ahead of the three-phase legislative assembly voting on September 18, 25, and October 1. Vote counting will occur on October 4.
