The Mumbai Police on Tuesday announced that they have dismantled a gang of burglars originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh. Five members of the gang were apprehended, the officials confirmed. The gang had burgled a house in the Borivali area last week, making off with valuable items.
The breakthrough came when police analyzed CCTV footage capturing the suspects fleeing the crime scene in an auto-rickshaw. The vehicle's registration number provided a crucial lead, guiding authorities to the auto-rickshaw's owner who revealed that it had been rented by the suspects. Further investigations revealed the gang had also utilized a car, which was later intercepted in Mokhada, Palghar district.
Police successfully recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments, along with other valuables. Both the car and the auto-rickshaw used during the commission of the crime were seized. Notably, two of the arrested individuals were found to have prior criminal records. The suspects have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including section 305-A for theft. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details about the gang's operations.
