In a significant move, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as a CBI probe into the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor unfolds.
This decision, announced on Wednesday, was made by the IMA's disciplinary committee. Ghosh, who also serves as the vice president of IMA's Kolkata branch, saw his membership suspended following complaints from the victim's parents regarding his handling of the tragic situation.
The IMA stated that the suspension was necessitated by the "lack of empathy and sensitivity" shown by Ghosh, which brought disrepute to the medical profession. Several local medical associations had called for this punitive measure.
