In a significant development, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has called for the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to revoke the membership of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate medic, as well as for purported financial irregularities at the medical facility.
The issue has sparked considerable concern within the medical community. In a letter addressed to the IMA, FAIMA expressed its alarm over Ghosh's continued affiliation with the prestigious association. The organization underscored that Ghosh's membership is "not only inappropriate but also detrimental to the reputation and ethical standards" of the IMA.
The CBI has commenced lie detection tests on Ghosh and other involved individuals. FAIMA highlighted the necessity for the IMA to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability. The association emphasized the critical importance of public trust in the medical profession, stressing that any member facing serious legal charges must be subject to stringent scrutiny.
