A late-night scuffle reportedly occurred on Saturday at Delhi University between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Students Federation of India (SFI). The incident unfolded around 11:45 PM near the Swami Vivekananda statue within the campus.
The ABVP has attributed the clash to controversial remarks allegedly made by SFI members against the Indian Army. Sources indicate that around 50 students, many affiliated with the student group Disha and allegedly external to DU, participated in the altercation.
ABVP representative and Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) Secretary Aprajita condemned the disruption, noting that it disturbed students preparing for Law Faculty exams. Aprajita stated that the ABVP condemned the remarks as "anti-national" and disrespectful to the Indian Army while criticizing SFI for what she described as an anti-national agenda.
In response, SFI accused the ABVP of a smear campaign and spreading misinformation. SFI emphasized that their protest aimed to raise awareness about rape culture and violence against women. They accused the ABVP-led DUSU of overlooking the harassment faced by female students at DU.
SFI maintained that they have consistently supported victims of sexual harassment and expressed unconditional solidarity with survivors. They criticized the ABVP-led DUSU for remaining silent on issues of physical and cyber harassment affecting female students.
