In a significant move, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has called upon Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud to take suo motu action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his controversial remarks about 'Miya Muslims'. These comments, according to Jamiat, represent a 'blatant betrayal of constitutional principles'.

Jamiat president Maulana Mahmood Madani highlighted in a letter to the CJI, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP president J P Nadda, that Sarma's 'anti-Muslim' remarks have sparked considerable concern. Madani stressed that such statements undermine the constitutional duty of impartiality and justice mandated for a chief minister.

Madani additionally warned that Sarma's statements, made during a recent assembly session, could exacerbate social tensions and deepen ethnic and religious divides in Assam. The Jamiat leader pointed out that derogatory references to 'Miya Muslims' and alarming predictions about the state's demographic future could foster communal discord, urging immediate intervention to curb these divisive narratives.
