A significant meeting took place between Delhi Resident Doctors Associations (RDAs) and members of the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) to discuss the national strike and justice demands for the tragic death of a second-year post-graduate (PG) resident at RG Kar Medical College. Key demands include a CBI inquiry, a fast track court, the removal of the college principal, and the formation of a Central Protection Act Committee, according to a statement by FORDA.

The tragic incident on August 9 has incited widespread outrage and protests. Medical institutions like Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi have announced the suspension of elective services in solidarity with the cause.

The calamity has also sparked a political storm in West Bengal. On August 10, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee proposed an ordinance or bill for expedited rape trials, condemning the politicization of the issue. Additionally, on August 10, doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, held a candlelight march to protest the death. In a parallel protest, doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi demanded a CBI inquiry, carrying posters and chanting slogans.

Following the rape and murder of a female PG trainee doctor, the West Bengal government has appointed Professor Dr. Bulbul Mukhopadhyay as the new Medical Superintendent cum Vice-Principal of RG Kar Medical College, replacing the former principal, who has been transferred to Kolkata National Medical College as a Professor of Physiology.
