The Kerala Health Department has suspended three employees of Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital following an incident in which a patient was trapped in an elevator for over a day and a half.
The patient, identified as Raveendran Nair from Ullur, was reportedly stuck inside the lift on Saturday and was only rescued on Monday morning at 6 am.
According to reports, nobody in the hospital was aware of Nair's predicament in the OP Block elevator, which had gotten stuck between two floors as he was leaving the hospital. His family had filed a missing case with the medical college police on Sunday night after failing to reach him via phone, and they noted the absence of signboards indicating that the lift was out of service.
Health Minister Veena George has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, which is being conducted by a team comprising the Department of Medical Education, the joint director, principal, and the superintendent.
