Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has reviewed the readiness and execution of three newly enacted criminal laws by the Delhi Police and the Home Department of GNCTD, emphasizing the need to fortify the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Delhi.

Saxena approved the recruitment of 165 Junior Scientific Assistants (JSA) on a contract basis to address immediate needs, pending the finalization of Recruitment Rules (RRs). These JSAs will be deployed at crime scenes. He directed the FSL to finalize RRs for various vacant posts swiftly and stressed the importance of total transparency in the recruitment process to avoid any future complaints.

Furthermore, Saxena instructed the FSL to outline the details of recruitment requirements and set a deadline for purchasing and installing necessary equipment. With the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, the role of FSL in scientific investigations and evidence analysis has become increasingly vital. Saxena also oversaw the construction of new Modern Building Blocks at FSL Rohini, inaugurated in December 2023, and the integration of the latest tools and blockchain technology into the FSL in August 2023.

The LG sanctioned the creation of 421 new posts to supplement the existing 346 positions across various FSL verticals including Chemical Science, Biological Science, Cyber Forensics, Physical Science, Document & Scientific Support, and HRD/Quality Control.

The newly sanctioned 165 JSA posts are aimed at managing the expected increased workload following the implementation of the three laws effective from July 1, 2024. (ANI)
