Chilean tennis legend Luis Ayala, renowned for reaching two French Open finals, has passed away at the age of 91, according to an announcement by the country's tennis federation on Wednesday.

"Today the Chilean tennis is losing a giant, but his legacy will live on every court where this beautiful sport is played," the federation stated.

Ayala, born in Santiago, was an iconic figure in his home country's sport scene. Over his illustrious career, he secured 46 singles titles and was celebrated for his prowess on clay courts, notably being a finalist at Roland Garros in 1958 and 1960.
