Coach Rassie Erasmus recalls Johan Grobbelaar for South Africa's crucial Rugby Championship test against Argentina in Santiago, leaving several World Cup winners at home. South Africa tops the standings and a win will secure their first championship title since 2019. Erasmus aims to give more players international experience.
South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus has made strategic changes for their decisive Rugby Championship test against Argentina, recalling hooker Johan Grobbelaar while several World Cup winners stay home. This move comes after South Africa's 18-12 victory over New Zealand, putting them close to their first championship title since 2019.
With 18 points, the Springboks currently lead the standings, ahead of Argentina's 10 points. Erasmus emphasized the importance of giving more players international experience, especially in a challenging match against Argentina's hostile crowd in Santiago. The absence of several key players aims to manage their workload and provide them with much-needed rest.
The reshuffled squad includes flyhalf Handre Pollard and utility back Canan Moodie as potential cover for various positions, as well as a mix of veterans and newer players who could make significant contributions in the upcoming match.
