The National Hurricane Center has issued a tropical storm warning for a significant portion of the Southeast seacoast, citing the impending threat of heavy rain and coastal flooding from turbulent weather off the Carolinas.
According to forecasters at the Miami-based center, the disturbance emerged offshore and prompted warnings from Edisto Beach, South Carolina, up to Ocracoke Inlet near the southern tip of North Carolina's Outer Banks.
As of the 5 pm EDT advisory on Sunday, the weather system was centered approximately 125 miles east-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina. With maximum sustained winds reaching 45 mph, it is advancing northwest toward the coastline at 7 mph. The storm is anticipated to cause urban and flash flooding, minor river flooding, and high surf in the Southeast over the coming days.
