Mumbai's Dahi Handi Injuries Amid Festive Fervour

At least 41 'Govindas,' participants involved in the formation of multi-story human pyramids as part of the 'Dahi Handi' celebrations, were injured in Mumbai on Tuesday, according to officials.
These injured Govindas were admitted to various hospitals, both BMC-run and private, in the city for treatment. Dahi Handi, part of the Janmashtami festival celebrating Lord Krishna's birth, saw enthusiastic revellers across Mumbai and other parts of the state participating with traditional fervour and gaiety.
Govindas form multi-tiered human pyramids to break 'Dahi Handis'—clay pots filled with curd—suspended in mid-air. Till 3 pm, 41 Govindas sustained injuries while attempting to form human pyramids in various parts of the city. Eight were admitted to hospitals, 26 were treated in OPDs, and seven were discharged post-treatment. Amidst intermittent light to moderate showers, prominent 'Govinda Pathaks' attempted to form nine-tier human pyramids at several locations. The festival also caused traffic snarls due to haphazardly parked vehicles.
