Pirates Attack Fishermen Off Kodiakkarai Coast

Four fishermen from Nagapattinam district were attacked by pirates off the Kodiakkarai southeast coast. Anbazhagan, one of the fishermen, sustained injuries and was hospitalized. The pirates stole their GPS, fishing nets, and equipment. Anbazhagan is receiving treatment while the other four have returned home.

Four fishermen from Nagapattinam district were allegedly attacked by pirates in the mid-sea off the Kodiakkarai southeast coast. Of them, one was injured, a fisheries department official said on Thursday.

The injured fisherman has been identified as Anbazhagan from Arukattuthurai village within the district.

According to reports, Anbazhagan and four other fishermen were engaged in fishing activities in their fiberglass boat when they were assailed by the pirates. The attackers reportedly seized their GPS device, fishing nets, and other crucial equipment.

Following the incident, Anbazhagan was admitted to the Vedaranyam government hospital for treatment, while the other four fishermen have safely returned home, the official added.
