U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump 47% to 42% in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll for the upcoming November 5 presidential election. Harris' lead has widened following a debate where a majority of voters concluded she outperformed Trump.

The two-day poll revealed that Harris has a five-point lead among registered voters, which is slightly better than her four-point lead in a previous August poll. A significant 53% of those aware of the debate declared Harris the winner, compared to 24% for Trump. Harris, 59, consistently challenged Trump, 78, on his qualifications and numerous legal issues.

Even within the Republican camp, Trump's performance did not meet expectations, with 53% of Republican voters in the poll conceding he won the debate. Over 90% of Democrats, however, declared Harris the victor. The debate, hosted by ABC News, was watched by 67.1 million viewers and led to widespread criticism of Trump's performance, echoing sentiments following a previously poor debate showing by President Biden.
