India's strategic roadmap for e-mobility research and development has proposed an Aadhaar number for batteries to maintain a digital record of their material composition, usage history, and end-of-life management. This move is intended to streamline the recycling process, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Released by Principal Scientific Adviser to the government, Prof. A.K. Sood, the eMobility R&D Roadmap outlines 34 research projects aimed at achieving self-reliance and establishing India as a global leader in innovative mobility solutions. 'This roadmap addresses critical gaps in the current research and development framework,' said Prof. Karthick Athmanathan, a member of the Consultative Group of the e-Mobility Advisory Committee.

The proposed Aadhaar system for batteries will provide comprehensive data, including manufacturing details, usage history, and composition, aiding in efficient recycling and second-life applications. This project is given high priority due to its potential for enhancing transparency and traceability in battery lifecycle management.
