Pathak, a 27-year-old of Nepalese descent born in Punjab, has already made 125 appearances for India since 2018. His new role comes after Sreejesh retired post the Tokyo Olympics.

Pathak's immediate test is the Asian Champions Trophy in China starting September 8. He acknowledges the difficulty of matching Sreejesh's legacy but remains focused on achieving benchmarks. Pathak's ultimate dream is to win an Olympic gold in Los Angeles 2028.
