Aayush Thakur, the talented pacer from Purani Dilli 6, has made headlines by becoming the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the ongoing Delhi Premier League (DPL). Thakur, who credits India left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh for his mastery in bowling yorkers, showcased his exceptional skills in the match against North Delhi Strikers, leading his team to a 20-run victory.
The 21-year-old, who has experience representing India 'B' in an Under-19 Quadrangular international series, highlighted the impact of his IPL experience. 'I was a net bowler for the Punjab Kings in 2022 and Lucknow Super Giants in 2023. The experience I gained was crucial in my performance here,' Thakur shared. With 12 wickets in 7 matches, he stands just one wicket behind the top wicket-taker, Simarjeet Singh.
Thakur's transition from a batter to a bowler under the mentorship of Tarak Sinha at Sonnet Cricket Club was a pivotal moment in his career. 'Switching to fast bowling was challenging, but it has paid off. My performances in DPL are promising, and I aim to keep this momentum,' he added.
