The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday initiated searches at multiple sites within the Gariyaband district of Chhattisgarh, linked to the 2023 state assembly poll IED blast case.

The CPI (Maoist) cadres orchestrated the blast as a convoy of polling and security officials was returning to village Badegobra after voting on November 17 of the previous year. The explosion claimed the life of a Head Constable from the ITBP ADHOC 615 Battalion, according to an NIA release.

NIA teams today targeted premises associated with nine suspects in the Maoist-dominated Chhotegobra village under PS Manipur's jurisdiction. Several mobile phones and digital devices were confiscated in the raid, which forms part of the investigation into case RC - 05 /2024/NIA/RPR. The NIA took over the case in March this year and identified certain CPI (Maoist) supporters as suspects helping execute the attack.
