Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama made history as he became the first Asian golfer to secure a FedExCup Playoffs victory. Matsuyama's two-stroke triumph over Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland at the St. Jude Championship was hard-fought, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Surging to his second title of the season and 10th PGA TOUR win, the 32-year-old overcame a difficult back nine with two closing birdies on Sunday. His overnight five-shot lead dwindled to a one-shot deficit after dropping four strokes between holes 12-15.
The win propels Matsuyama to third place in the FedExCup points list, positioning him for a potential season-long victory with the BMW Championship and TOUR Championship remaining. Matsuyama credited a new putter and stand-in caddie Taiga Tabuchi for their crucial roles in his success.
