Monsoon Havoc: Himachal Pradesh Reels Under Cloudbursts and Flash Floods

Himachal Pradesh has been severely affected by this year's monsoon, experiencing 51 cloudburst and flash flood events between June 27 and August 16, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. These events have resulted in 31 deaths and 33 missing persons.
Several districts, including Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, and Mandi, have borne the brunt of the devastation, with widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. Landslides have been particularly frequent in Mandi, Kinnaur, and Shimla, claiming three lives during the same period.
The monsoon has disrupted daily life significantly, with 95 roads closed and several power and water supply schemes affected. Economic losses are estimated at Rs 1,140 crore, majorly impacting the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department, and Horticulture Department. Authorities have issued a 'yellow' alert for heavy rains in isolated areas until August 21.
