In the wake of recent devastating landslides, two state-run schools in Wayanad, Kerala, resumed their classes at temporary facilities on Monday.
The students from Mundakkai GLPS and Vellarmala GVHSS were welcomed back to makeshift classrooms at a government higher secondary school and a panchayat community hall in Meppadi.
General Education Minister V Sivankutty inaugurated the 'Punapraveshanotsavsm,' symbolizing the government's effort to normalize the situation. Children and teachers were seen exchanging pleasantries as they reunited after a month-long hiatus.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, urging the community to unite and recover from their losses together. The opening ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter for those affected by the tragedy.
On July 30, major landslides struck Mundakkai and Chooralamala regions in Wayanad, causing nearly complete devastation, killing over 200 people, and leaving many injured.
