The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is distributing $4.3 billion in grants across 30 states to fund projects aimed at reducing climate pollution. These initiatives focus on minimizing greenhouse gas emissions from key sectors such as transportation, electric power, and agriculture.
The grants, sourced from the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, were designed to transition the nation towards renewable energy like wind and solar power. Nearly $400 billion in spending and tax credits included in the Act aims to replace dependency on fossil fuels.
Highlighted projects include $396 million for Pennsylvania to cut industrial emissions and nearly $500 million to decarbonize freight and transportation at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The EPA underscores these grants as pivotal investments to advance environmental justice, create clean energy jobs, and significantly curb air pollution.
