Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday criticized the BJP over remarks made by its MP Kangana Ranaut, who called for the reintroduction of the three repealed farm laws. Gandhi demanded clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on whether he opposed these comments or had a hidden agenda.
Gandhi asserted that any attempt to revive the farm laws would be strongly opposed by the INDIA bloc. He emphasized the sacrifices made by farmers, with 700 lives lost during protests, and vowed that they would never be forgotten. He accused Modi of disrespecting these sacrifices by not observing a two-minute silence for the deceased farmers.
In a video statement, Gandhi stated, 'The BJP people keep testing ideas among the public to gauge reactions. One of their MPs has talked about reviving the three black farm laws. Modi ji, you must clarify your stance on this matter.' Following the backlash, Ranaut withdrew her comments, stating that they were personal opinions and did not represent the party's official position.
