The recent Bharat Bandh, organized in response to a Supreme Court ruling on reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), elicited varied reactions across Madhya Pradesh. Major cities like Bhopal and Indore remained unaffected, with normal traffic and business activities proceeding smoothly.
In Chhatarpur, however, the situation was different. Protesters vandalized shops and pressured owners to shut their businesses. Authorities, including Sub Divisional Magistrate Akhil Rathore, pledged legal action against the perpetrators.
Leaders from various organizations, including the Bhim Army and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led rallies and sit-ins, vehemently opposing the Supreme Court's decision on sub-classification within SC reservations. They argued it undermines the core principles of the reservation system without proper caste census data.
