TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has raised objections to party colleague Sukhendu Sekhar Ray's demand for the interrogation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal in the case of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The controversy erupted after Ray questioned the police's handling of the investigation.
Ghosh argued that the demand was illogical, highlighting that the Commissioner had acted promptly, arresting the accused within 12 hours. "The CM asked for 3-4 more days, and there were chances of a breakthrough. Now, the case is with the CBI, and the CM has no interest in it," Ghosh stated.
In contrast, Ray had insisted on social media that custodial interrogation of the ex-principal and the Commissioner was necessary to uncover the truth. The case has now been transferred to the CBI following an order from the Calcutta High Court. This development follows nationwide protests by the medical community and recent vandalism at the hospital.
