Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday defended the state government's decision to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, asserting widespread public support.

Shivakumar criticized JD(S) leaders HD Kumaraswamy and HD Deve Gowda for dividing Ramanagara from Hassan. He stated, "We are Bengaluru, whether it is Ramanagara, Channapatna, or Kanakapura...People are very happy and the world is looking at Bengaluru."

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the intention behind the renaming is to promote Bengaluru as a top investment destination. "Showcasing a greater Bengaluru will attract better investment opportunities," Kharge remarked.

The Karnataka cabinet approved the renaming, announced by Law Minister HK Patil. BJP MPs oppose the move, calling it political. Iranna Kadadi called it a "political game," while Lahar Singh Siroya questioned the necessity, citing concerns over Bengaluru's existing issues. Pralhad Joshi labeled the decision as evidence of Congress's alleged opposition to 'Ram'.
