A prominent Filipino evangelist preacher, Apollo Quiboloy, has been arrested on charges of sex trafficking and sexual abuse, announced Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. on Sunday.
Quiboloy, a self-proclaimed 'owner of the universe' and 'appointed son of god,' has consistently denied the allegations. The arrest comes amid separate U.S. charges, including bulk cash smuggling, which led to his placement on the FBI's 'most wanted' list.
Last month, over 2,000 police officers were deployed to search his church's compound in Davao, suspecting he was hiding there. Known for his influence in Filipino politics, Quiboloy is a close associate of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
