BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal has voiced profound concern over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, leveling criticism against the West Bengal government and state police. Speaking with ANI, Jaiswal called for the Supreme Court to take separate cognizance of the incident.

"The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case is very sad and unfortunate. CBI has informed the court that the crime scene has been altered. The role of the West Bengal government and police is doubtful. The Supreme Court should take separate cognizance into this matter," stated Jaiswal. On August 23, Bengal's Sealdah Court remanded key accused Sanjay Roy to 14 days judicial custody, until September 6, 2024, under CBI supervision.

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court allowed the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with five associates and one civic volunteer, who had dinner with the deceased on the day of the crime. In a related move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, advocating for central legislation and the establishment of fast-track courts for sensitive cases to ensure swift trials.

The rape and murder have ignited widespread outrage and protests across cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Kolkata, demanding justice for the victim and penalties for the guilty. The postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. (ANI)
