Sonam Chishti, vice chairperson of the Kinnar Kalyan Board in Uttar Pradesh, has tendered her resignation, citing disappointment with the BJP's performance in the recent elections.

In a statement to PTI, Chishti, a transgender woman, confirmed she sent her resignation letter to the Uttar Pradesh governor. Her position carries the status of a minister of state.

The resignation has fueled speculation of internal discord within the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit ahead of the anticipated bypolls for 10 state seats. Chishti's letter, which is circulating on social media, expresses her sense of responsibility for the party's electoral losses and her resolve to continue strengthening the BJP at the grassroots level.
