Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest on Friday against 'Spiritual Awakening' classes conducted at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Chennai. The protesters demanded accountability from the Tamil Nadu Department of Education and demonstrated outside Ashok Nagar Government Higher Secondary School.

Chief Educational Officer S. Mars engaged in talks with the demonstrators and assured them of action. The classes, organized by the NGO Paramporul Foundation, had a video posted on social media, drawing criticism from SFI, DYFI, and others for the state government's involvement.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin responded to the backlash by reaffirming the state's commitment to scientific education, stating, "Our high-quality textbooks contain the best scientific ideas that students need to know. Teachers can bring out the best ideas needed to face future challenges."

Education Minister Anbil Mahesh promised strict action against those responsible. In a subsequent school inspection, he addressed students on the critical role of education, stating, "Students should think for themselves and analyze everything with reasoning. All are equal, and education is the only asset which cannot be stolen." He also announced the formation of a committee to investigate the incident.
