BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Thursday visited critical forward areas along the International Border in Jammu, assessing the operational preparedness of the troops, officials reported.

Chawdhary, on his first trip to the Jammu frontier since his recent appointment, interacted with ground troops and received a detailed briefing on the security apparatus from top officers.

DIG of Jammu-Kathua range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, joined Chawdhary at the Pansar border post, where they discussed the region's security measures and bolstered cooperation between BSF troops and police forces.

The visit comes just ahead of the three-phased elections in Jammu and Kashmir starting September 18. Officials noted that the three-tier security grid along both the International Border and the Line of Control is being fortified with additional BSF deployments and nearly 1,000 newly trained border police personnel, supported by Village Defence Groups (VDGs).
