Police have detained the driver of a luxury vehicle registered to the son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule following a multi-vehicle collision in Nagpur, officials revealed on Tuesday.

The driver, Arjun Hawre, was arrested Monday night but later released on bail. A senior police officer confirmed the arrest.

No action has been taken against Sanket Bawankule, the vehicle's owner, and two other occupants who reportedly fled the scene at Mankapur bridge, a Sitabuldi police station official stated on Monday.

The incident occurred early Monday, leading to a complaint by Jitendra Sonkamble, whose car was among the vehicles hit. Police have registered a case of rash driving and other offenses.

The occupants of the Audi were returning from a beer bar in Dharampeth when the collision occurred. Blood tests will be conducted to check for alcohol.

CCTV footage is being reviewed to clarify the sequence of events, and further action will follow based on the findings.

The luxury car hit several vehicles in the Ramdaspeth area. Hawre and another occupant, Ronit Chittamwar, were apprehended near Mankapur bridge.

The Audi initially collided with Sonkamble's car and a moped, injuring two youths. The vehicle then struck a Polo car at a T-Point, whose occupants pursued and stopped the Audi, handing the detainees over to police.

Senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule admitted the car was registered to his son and called for an impartial investigation.
