A 27-year-old woman who was injured after being hit by an out-of-control BEST bus in Mumbai's Lalbaug area has died during treatment at a hospital, police reported on Monday.

The bus driver lost control of the vehicle when a drunk passenger grabbed the steering wheel during an argument on Sunday night. The bus rammed into pedestrians, cars, and two-wheelers, leaving ten people injured, three of them seriously.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking, the transport wing of Mumbai's civic body BMC, confirmed the incident. One of the injured persons, identified as Nupura Maniyar, was declared dead late Sunday night at KEM Hospital. Several other injured individuals remain hospitalized at the same facility, police and civic officials said on Monday.

The intoxicated passenger, Datta Shinde (45), has been arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The police official stated that further investigations are underway. The electric bus on Route 66 (from Ballard Pier in south Mumbai) was en route to Rani Laxmibai Chowk in Sion when the incident occurred near Ganesh Talkies in Lalbaug.
