West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday extended her support to the widow and four-year-old daughter of Sabir Malik, a migrant laborer from the state who was tragically killed in Haryana, an official confirmed.
Banerjee provided a government job to Malik's widow as part of a compensation package. The appointment letter, designating her as an attendant at the Basanti BLRO office, was handed over during their visit to the state secretariat, Nabanna, where they met with the chief minister.
Banerjee assured the bereaved family that her government would immediately take responsibility for the child's education. The brutal murder of Malik, who was lynched by five people on August 28 in Charkhi Dadri district over accusations of eating beef, has sparked widespread outrage and brought issues of communal violence and discrimination to the forefront.
