Police have detained a 32-year-old woman following a knife attack that injured six passengers on a bus traveling to a local festival in western Germany. Authorities stated that no political or religious motives were found.
Three victims are in critical condition as confirmed by police on Friday evening. The incident took place in Siegen, east of Cologne, around 7:40 p.m. The bus had over 40 passengers on board at the time.
Local officials announced that the festival would proceed despite the incident. The attack follows another knife assault in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, where a suspected Syrian extremist killed three people. This has led to plans for stricter knife laws and easier deportations. The woman arrested in Siegen is a German citizen with no immigrant background.
