Operation Kavach-5: Delhi Police Raids Net 74 Narco-Offenders Amid Intensified Drug Crackdown

Delhi Police's Operation Kavach-5 resulted in 74 arrests and significant drug seizures across 325 raids in 15 districts, executed under a zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics offenders. The operation aimed to disrupt both street-level dealers and high-level traffickers and curb the drug menace in the capital.

In a sweeping crackdown under Operation Kavach-5, Delhi Police conducted 325 raids across 15 districts from August 31 to September 1, arresting 74 narco-offenders, officials confirmed.

According to Delhi Police, various teams were assembled to target drug criminals under a stringent zero-tolerance policy. The operation led to the recovery of approximately 108.93 grams of heroin, 66.28 kilograms of ganja, 1100 grams of charas, and 16 grams of MDMA.

Additionally, 54 cases under the Delhi Excise Act resulted in the seizure of 78 bottles, 24 beers, 5089 quarters of illicit liquor, and a scooty used for bootlegging. Since the year's start, 961 narco-offenders have been apprehended in 695 NDPS cases, and the operation's joint approach aims to save the youth from the drug menace by focusing both on supply and demand sides.

Delhi Police's zero-tolerance policy has caused significant disruption among drug peddlers, forcing them to reduce contraband quantities and adopt novel smuggling techniques, such as using cars and trains to carry smaller amounts disguised as family travel. Authorities note that many major traffickers have gone underground or moved their operations outside Delhi.

The initiative underscores the Union Home Minister's commitment to eradicating drug addiction by engaging communities, including parents and teachers, to sensitize youth about the hazards of drug use. Operation Kavach-5 is a testament to Delhi Police's relentless efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect society from its adverse effects.
