In a landmark ruling, a fast-track court in Muzaffarnagar has sentenced six individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in the honour killing of a woman, confirmed government attorney Pradeep Kumar Sharma on Wednesday.

Each convict—Farman, Nauana, Salman, Shadab, Sanawwer, and another Farman—has also been fined Rs 35,000, according to the court's verdict. Judge Kamlapati, who presided over the case, found them guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Four female accused were acquitted due to insufficient evidence, Sharma revealed.

The victim, Farhana, was brutally murdered by her relatives for marrying Shahid, a man from a different caste, two months prior to the incident. The tragic event took place in Alipur Aterna village within the jurisdiction of Budhana Police Station in Muzaffarnagar. The family had strongly opposed the union due to caste differences, Sharma added.
