VP Kamala Harris Pledges to Cut Degree Requirements for Federal Jobs
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has announced plans to eliminate college degree requirements for certain federal jobs if elected president. Her economic pledges aim to appeal to middle-class voters. Harris faces a tight race against Republican Donald Trump, with both candidates proposing tax cuts and advocating for workers' rights.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Friday that she plans to eliminate college degree requirements for certain federal jobs if elected president. This initiative is part of her broader effort to attract middle-class voters, ahead of the tightly contested Nov. 5 U.S. elections against Republican rival Donald Trump.
In a speech in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Harris emphasized the importance of recognizing alternative paths to success beyond a college degree, such as apprenticeships and technical programs. She challenged the private sector to follow suit. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 62% of Americans aged 25 or older do not hold a bachelor's degree.
Harris' campaign has faced interruptions from protesters opposed to U.S. support for Israel's actions in Gaza. Despite the disruptions, Harris reiterated her support for a ceasefire and hostage rescue deal while maintaining her stance on backing Israel. The ongoing conflict and its geopolitical implications could influence voter behavior, particularly among pro-Palestinian Americans.
