In a recent announcement, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that more than 9.35 lakh people from Assam will receive their Aadhaar cards soon. These residents had faced issues obtaining the cards due to biometric data being locked during the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating process.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has been instructed by the Central government to issue Aadhaar cards to these individuals, following confirmation that there is no link between NRC inclusion and Aadhaar registration. Sarma highlighted that this resolution comes after long-term efforts to address the problem, which prevented many from accessing essential services like scholarships and ration cards.

The UIDAI is set to initiate the process within 15-30 days. The Chief Minister clarified that the confusion affected 9.35 lakh people and was not based on community, religion, or area. He reiterated that the issue was due to a misunderstanding and that eligible individuals will now receive their Aadhaar cards.
